  • I have a Nuvi 1390 LMT. For the traffic feature to work, you need to use the special power cord that comes with it. That has a built in receiver and the power cord is the antennae.I got this product and it had the standard power cord. I originally thought, \"Great! I have to buy the power cord, sold separately\". I gave Garmin 4 Stars for not including the hardware needed and the Seller 2 Stars for not noting it in the ad. Total 3 Stars.I contacted Garmin support to express my concern with this setup and ask which cord I need to buy to make the traffic work. I was told that the receiver is built in to this unit and the power cord doubles as the antennae. So, the traffic feature works with the standard-looking cord that comes with it.The seller contacted me and only said that that\'s how Garmin does it. OK, fair enough. But it would have been good to know before buying it.Updating my rating to 4 Stars for Garmin and the Seller. Great product, good price, prompt shipping. But please give us more information about the product. The box from Garmin had no manual or instructions. The seller could have known the product better. i.e. \"Receiver built in. Traffic feature will work with the cord provided\".Sorry, Garmin. You make a great product. But gosh, make it easier for us, please. Way too many choices. I had a heck of a time sorting through the dozens of models and features. The model number system makes no sense. Then, this confusion on the traffic receiver / antennae / power cord.
  • A fire caused I-85 in Atlanta to be closed both ways and it won\'t open for several months, so I decided I needed a GPS with traffic; the Nuvi 2589LMT is just what the doctor ordered. It has Bluetooth, Foursquare, Voice Command, and too many more features to mention here - and traffic.Voice Command is intuitive and hasn\'t missed a command from me yet. You can use it to find places, make phone calls, even adjust the volume and screen brightness. Download and install Smartphone Link on your phone and link it with the Nuvi and you have Live Traffic, which I feel is the best of the 3 traffic services that Garmin offers. It uses your phone\'s data connection (an issue if you don\'t have unlimited data). If you go through an area where you don\'t have data, it reverts back to regular Garmin Traffic. The screen is glass and highly reflective, but it hasn\'t bothered me a bit. If there is a reflection or glare, just adjust the angle. The display is very sharp and the screen is a true touch screen; on some Nuvis you have to \"press\" or \"tap\" the screen. Although I prefer a 6\" screen, the 5\" screen on the 2589LMT is big enough and easy to read.I\'ve read a few reviews here where people have had trouble with Voice Command, screen glare, and other things. Maybe I got lucky, but I haven\'t had a single problem. Highly recommended.
  • This is a great GPS. Super fast, responsive, and clear.Plusses:1. It finds the satellites right away. No more super long waits2. The screen is nice and responsive, also very clear and easy to read3. The information you want is on the screen...they\'ve done great things with the UI. For example, both your speed and the speed limit are posted.4. It reads actual street names to you and also tells you what lanes to be in. Very important features.Minuses:1. Voice command works, but is seldom accurate in transcribing what you say. I just avoid it mostly2. This thing has locked up on me and run its battery to zero. Software bug. The result is that it won\'t turn on. You have to plug it in, press on for 10 seconds, then unplug and replug in. Then it will start to boot. Took me a while to figure out.3. Not sure why they still come with suction cups. Few people want that. Just come with a friction base for the dash.Traffic is a maybe. My wife seems to have benefitted from it but I can\'t seem to detect that it does anything.
  • My family\'s been using Garmin car GPS is for over 15 years I got one for my mom when she got lost on a 2002 road trip traveling. also my deaf sister has one the voice is off = my mom and I drove around without sound / turned off on our units for weeks. My last Garmin GPS I used for work, used to travel in western Canada and all over the United States and helped me with the speed limit, finding places in nowhere. can\'t say enough good things about Garmin this unit is a real good after reading the reviews doesn\'t have that much pop up ads it\'s just the Best of Both Worlds and being refurbished it was like you know even if it was retail it still be worth it. Last Garmin that use for travel work the battery went bad. I bought a replacement battery from a reseller it didn\'t work so just went and got this unit. so let me just save you the time just get this unit or something similar from Garmin and you\'ll be good to go. Hint: in hot climates keep your GPS unit in a little lunch box cooler no ice to help insulated from the heat.
  • This is an improvement over my older Nuvi 765, but like all GPS units, they have faults. When this one shows to turn in 100 feet, you had better be turning now or you will go past your street. The voice control is neat but she gets what you said wrong about half the time. When we were in Tulsa staying just off I-44, the Garmin would have us go about a mile on the side roads to get onto I-44 when there was a get on for ether way right there by our RV park. This being a recent certified refurbished unit from Garmin you would think that it would not have needed a new map update.. This one did and when it finished the update, it said my memory was used 82%. Maybe this is how Garmin calculates life time map up dates. When you out of memory, your free lifetime update is up. You can add a memory card but you would think that a new unit would have more memory left than 82%. I have only owned a Garmin so I can\'t say it is better or worse than another brand. With all its faults, I would have been lost many times if I had not had a GPS unit. But on long distant trips you best still check out the route with other means before leaving out.
