  • To start with: I got this temperature sensor more as a gadget than a useful item. So here is what I think of it.I have been pairing this unit with a Garmin GPSmap 66sr and recording data continuously while hiking. Super easy to set up, and you can read the temperature continuously while it\'s in use. I have it dangling off the side of my coat so it doesn\'t pick up much of my body heat. The reading changes in discrete steps of 1 degree Centigrade or 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit, which seems to be its accuracy limit. You can see its typical performance on the graph during a ~3 hour hike on a cloudy morning. The temperature displayed at the beginning and end of the hike agrees well with my car\'s outside thermometer. So far, so good, until - the sun comes out!Exposing this little thermometer to direct sunlight makes its temperature reading shoot up by as much as 15 degrees Centigrade (27 degrees Fahrenheit) in less than 10 minutes. Obviously, this isn\'t the real air temperature because moving the thermometer back to the shade makes the reading go back down to its previous value. Other reviewers have suggested mounting the thermometer in the shade - I don\'t know how practical this is during a hike, jog, bike ride, etc. As this thermometer is black, it absorbs heat from the sun rapidly. I may paint mine white or wrap a white cloth around it to see if it helps. So if you are aware of the thermometer\'s limitations, it can be a nice little addition to your next outdoor adventure!
  • The setup process was very straightforward, and I was able to pair the sensor with my watch in no time. The sensor itself is lightweight and unobtrusive, and it doesn\'t interfere with the comfort or wearability of my watch as it can be clipped on anywhere.
  • I enjoy the ablity to get the temperature around me when doing outside (and even sometimes inside) activities.Running/ walking outside; having this attached to my backpack (or thru a shoe lace if needbe), or times at the gym on a treadmill.Knowing the temp around me and logging it with my garmin activities data is something I want to keep track of. To know what the temp is can how it would impact my workout. When it Comes to the \"I didn\'t have 20+ minutes for my watch to adjust to the temperature\" or perhaps you need to wear your watch for data/activities tracking or the actual temp near you (not the closest weather station that garmin connect will use, or maybe you don\'t have cell service in a spot and you want the temp constantly....the tempe is worth the money!
  • Sensor will only stay connected to ANT+ about 20 seconds by design. However, if I\'m in a Garmin \"activity\", it will stay connected for the duration of the event. I have it mounted under the front of my mountain bike seat to keep it away from the heat I\'m producing and the sunlight. Temperature changes are far from instantaneous and may take 10-15 minutes to stabilize. It works best when the sensor is kept stored in an environment close to temperature it will monitor (e.g., stored in an unheated garage, for use outside).Garmin Epix connects in 10-15 seconds to the sensor.
