  • I didn\'t know exactly what to expect when I ordered this...but when I received it, I was pleasantly surprised! This unit appears to be very well made. It\'s a substantial piece of hardware...the pictures don\'t really give you a good sense of its size, but the receptacle is a sizeable chuck of solid aluminum. The locking ring (the knurled part underneath the bracket) is toothed on top to grip the bracket and remain snug. The receptacle itself is made with an indented ring around the top, and the rubber cap has a matching protruding ring on the inside, so when fit together, the cap is sort of \'locked on\'. I have no doubt that the cap will keep any water out of the receptacle. The wires were long enough to go from the outside edge of my handlebars to the battery which is in about the middle of the bike. I did remove the black plastic jacket from the wires (it is loose, it just slides off) and replace it with some heat shring wrap...but that\'s just me being fussy! I think the stock jacket would have worked fine.Once connected, I plugged in a number of devices to check operation. One of them was my Nexus 6P smart phone. This phone charges very fast IF you are using the proper charger (i.e., the one that came with it, or one specified by Google). All other chargers will work at a slower rate. If you plug in this phone to an old Ipod or any old USB charger, the phone will report that it\'s \"Charging Slowly\". If you plug it into the factory charger, it will say \"Charging Rapidly\". If you plug it into this charger, it says \"Charging\", and it charges pretty well. I plugged my phone in while it had %15 charge, and left it plugged in for about 20 minutes will I did a couple other things...it was at 29% when I unplugged it. That may not sound all that wonderful, but besides the chargers that I specifically bought for this phone, it\'s the fastest of all the rest I have. One thing to be aware of...when powered, even if no usb device is plugged in, this receptacle has a colored LED that glows. Mine is blue, but I chose the blue color, so I don\'t know if ALL of them glow blue or if they match the body color. But the point is, this LED is constantly on, which means it\'s constantly drawing power. It WILL drain the battery if left on long enough. I can\'t say how long that is...but I\'m just pointing it out so you don\'t forget! If you leave the rubber cap on, you won\'t see the glowing LED! On my bike, I put a plug on the end of the wire that matches the battery tender plug. I power this receptacle using the same wire I use to charge my bike with the battery tender. I generally plan to leave it unplugged, unless I need it. Eventually, I\'ll either put a switch in the wire, or attach it to a relay somehow so that it\'s only powered when the key is on. If I had my preference, I\'d have left off the LED!I\'m attaching a couple pictures I took of it on my bike. My motorcycle is a 2014 BMW R1200GSA. As you can see, I\'ve mounted the receptacle at the right end of the handlebars. This is really the only place it will go on the handlebars...because they get thicker as you get closer to the center...too thick for the bracket to fit over them anywhere else! I actually like this position, so far. Other options included the crash bars. I thought about mounting it to the bar that holds my navigation, but to do that I\'d need a reducer to work with the much smaller bar.
  • Ok, it\'s pricey but then quality usually isn\'t inexpensive. This USB power adapter is so well built you\'ll want to show it off. The handlebar mount itself si sturdy enough to hold anything you could possibly want to mount on a handlebar. The USB power adapter itself is solid aluminum and anodized to a gold/copper color. The color is fine and a break from the typical black although it would be nice to have a few other choices. It really does let your fast charge capable devices quickly get to 100% power. This comes in very handy for those devices that have quite a draw while in use. Often, those devices can\'t keep up with the discharge rate when plugged into the typical USB connections, especially the ones that use a cigarette lighter style plug in. The wire leads are plenty long, finally something that doesn\'t have 2\" long hair thin wires that break or are nearly impossible to splice in or connect to power. The leads are true 105c rated wire in a PVC sheathing so there is nothing else you need to do except connect it to your source. When you get it you might notice that the sheathing doesn\'t go close to the back of the adapter so just hold onto the end of the wore leads and gently pull/slide the sheathing closer to the adapter. Both the wire leads and the USB connections are sealed against moisture with good rubber seals. You won\'t worry about rain, snow or anything getting things wet inside. The only thing you need to think about is where you\'ll place it. The handlebar mount a little wider than you might expect and is secured using 4 miniature nuts threaded onto screws, all high quality. The mount itself has a rubber sleeve to protect your handlebar so no worries there but being a little large you do need at least some straight portion of the handlebar to use the mount. You can mount the adapter without using the supplied mount though. Just unscrew the aluminum retaining ring and then you can mount the adapter on any flat panel. All in all, you can probably find a way to mount it easily. If you want the highest quality and just want to buy something once, for USB power this is it. I bought one to see if I\'d like it an am ordering another for my other ride.
  • I almost love it...but can\'t give it 4.5 stars so I\'ll settle for liking it. Quality is top notch. I looked at every single USB motorcycle power option on Amazon and this one was the best. Water proof cover gives a feeling of confidence for rainy day riding and giving the bike baths. It\'s heavy! You can feel the weight of the quality design and materials used, unlike the unit this one replaced which feels cheap and only lasted 11 months. LED light makes it nice and easy to plug in your USB cord while riding at night when cell phone battery gets low and you don\'t want to fumble around - I consider this a nice safety feature. Stainless bracket and aluminum housing won\'t rust - which is a new requirement of any accessory that I mount on the bike. If it rusts, I don\'t buy it.Cons are short lived, but worth mentioning - 1) Have a way to turn on or off the device. The LED is constantly on and I connected this directly to battery power, so if my bike weren\'t used every week of the year I\'d have to make sure to disconnect it from the battery during storage or put a battery tender on the bike. 2) Cliff-Top did not finish the power lead - they make you figure this out on your own. I chopped up an SAE connector with 7.5amp fuse and soldered the wires together so I\'d actually be able to bolt this down to my battery. 3) the power wires were too short to mount on my handle bars from my Triumph Tiger\'s battery...so soldering on the SAE connector as an extension made it possible to actually use. Cliff-Top should make the wires about 10\" longer.
