AUTO METER 5289 GPS Speedometer Interface Module

  • Worked perfect out the box I didnt even read directions just plugged it in and once you start up the car within a minute or less it displays speed I’m guessing it takes a little bit to acquire the sat signal but I only noticed that right away now I dont even notice it maybe its faster now or I’m just not analyzing it like I did when first installed and checking everything out.Excited to change rear tire size/ rear axle ratio and never have to program anything to compensate.
  • I bought this to replace my Speedhut cluster for my CJ7. The speedhut always has power going to it, even when off, but it\'s such a small amount that it\'s negligible. I bought all Auto Meter products when I changed it over to a diesel.It\'s quite easy to wire up, red to power, black to ground, and purple to the speed input in the cluster. I find it hard to believe that I need to calibrate a GPS sensor, but I followed the instructions, got it to 80, and then let it go back to zero. Sometimes it works, and then other times it doesn\'t. It\'s quite strange. All the gauges are powered off the same 12V, so I know the power is clean. The grounds are all shared as well. Purple wire is soldered, and heat shrunk.I do have a VSS in the Dana 300 and I might just try to put that on some day, but I shouldn\'t have to because the GPS setup should work. I never had an issue with the Speedhut GPS. I live out in the country in NC, so there shouldn\'t be any issues with that. The GPS module is in the same place as the the Speedhut was.I\'m very happy with the gauges, just not so much with the GPS module. In all honesty, it should just be integrated, but I can see the need for the cash grab.
  • Minor gripe...it takes a couple of minutes for the sensor to acquire the satellites. It helps if you allow the car to sit running for a couple of minutes before driving. Otherwise it works great!! Very happy.
  • This product saved me having to get the transmission reconditioned/replaced in my Isuzu Axiom when the transmission stopped turning the factory speed sensor. Very happy! The factory sensor was already 3-wire (+12V, GND, and sense) so it was just a matter of connecting the 3 wires from this GPS box then using the button until the speedo reported 80mph. Instructions were good. Product works.
  • works really well. Custom trans swap and I didn\'t have provision for speed sensor anymore. fits the bill. my sc300 has 3-wire speed sensor. GPS interface is 3-wire as well. Just hook up one-to-one and done.3 year update:Still great.Only finicky things to say would be GPS signal is not always 1000% so speedo readings might jump around sometimes by maybe 5-10mph (as when driving under a bridge). I dont know how that may affect cruise control systems. Also, sometimes takes a block or two of driving without any speedometer before GPS triangulates.Great solution nonetheless and install and calibration is dead-simple.
  • The device seems to not do anything. I connected my oscilloscope to the signal output and there is no signal there when the button is depressed. For the price it would have been a good deal if it had worked but instead it looks like this was just a way to get rid of defective merchandise. I would recommend paying the higher price as much better deal.
  • This works great. Right after installing I went on a 500 mile trip. It worked flawlessly except in tunnels which can be expected. Highly recommended.
  • When it works it is accurate. But it only works for me 10% of the time. To calibrate it you hold the only button down until your speedometer reads 80mph. Sometimes I will set it and it works fine. I turn the car off at the gas station and when I start up it doesn\'t work anymore. Sometimes when calibrating it I accidentally go passed the 80mph because the needle keeps going for a couple seconds after you let go of the button. When I screw it up it won\'t let me retry like the instructions say I can do. Sometimes I set it correctly and my speedo stays at 0 when driving, and sometimes it shows max speed. There are so many different ways this thing fails that I haven\'t been able to troubleshoot it.Edit 3+ years later. Still using it. I don\'t remember what I did to it but it works most of the time now. Main issue is that you have to sit still for a bit to let it find GPS satellites or something when you first start it up. If I start driving too soon it shows my speed many times what it actually is. It\'s fun for your social media when you show it doing 1-200mph in 3 seconds, or blowing through school zones at mach3. It usually eventually fixes itself at stop lights., but not always.
