  • Despite some of the negative reviews, I still purchased this watch and am sooooo happy I did. First, I want to address a few criticisms I read and then I\'ll give my own impressions of the watch.Screen:Some have said the screen looks nothing like the pictures advertised by the manufacturer. I do not understand what these people are looking for! The screen is fantastic! No, the pictures don\'t show EXACTLY what you get, but neither do other GPS screens look EXACTLY like their ads. The truth is the screen shots are a VERY GOOD representation of what you actually get. The screen is plenty bright and clear, in sunlight or shadow. If the screen appears washed out when you first look at it, simply rotate your wrist a little until the glare goes away. When you do this the image becomes crystal clear. These are slight movements I\'m talking about. One thing I did, based on a suggestion in the manual, was reverse the screen color to black background, white characters. I\'m VERY happy with the screen. Look at the photos I took with my iphone. What more could you want??Touchscreen:I read a few complaints about the difficulty in pinpointing the crosshairs or otherwise having problems using the touchscreen. Again, this is a relatively small screen. It\'s not a big smart phone! I do not have problems selecting what I need, however I did notice that fingerprints are easily left on the screen and can interfere with the visibility of it. I hate fingerprints on touch screens. I solved this problem by going to walmart and buying a $10 iFrogz stylus. It\'s small enough that I can carry it in my pocket like a long golf tee or use the clip to hook it on your bag somewhere. It doesn\'t leave marks or smudges and I\'m sure improves the accuracy of pinpointing items on the screen. You can use a tee like some have recommended, but I\'d be afraid of damaging the screen over time.Wearability:At least one person said they have trouble with accidentally hitting the scorecard button during their swing. I am a single digit player and have ZERO issues with the watch affecting or being affected during my swing. Admittedly, I do not wear a golf glove and I suspect part of the problem could be due to the glove\'s heel making contact during the backswing. If that\'s the case, I would suggest trying a cadet style glove (smaller heel), or turn the watch face so it\'s on the inside of your wrist. I do this when I practice on the range (see below) and it works great.Battery life:Some have said they are not happy with battery life. I have only had the watch a week, using it for three rounds. I charge the watch after every round. After each round I still have 75% or more charge. I\'ll continue to monitor this and will report back in a few weeks. If this performance continues, I\'ll be very satisfied. As one person pointed out, make sure your computer doesn\'t shut off the charging power if it goes to sleep. Mine does not. Garmin sells a charging base if you don\'t want to mess with the computer part.My Impressions:This watch is great! I was a little concerned about how it would feel to wear it while playing golf. I don\'t even notice it\'s there when I swing! It\'s very lightweight and comfortable. It doesn\'t feel at all bulky and I really like the white version I opted for. I feel fine wearing it anywhere. The packaging was very good. Set up was a breeze. The manual that comes in the box is good, but go online and download that version. It\'s more complete without being laborious.I have not used the strength meter yet but I have used the tempo training. It\'s a great feature and one of the main reasons I bought the watch. I am satisfied that the 3.0 ratio is indeed the optimum rhythm. (Not to be too technical, but it\'s actually training your rhythm more so than tempo). My only complaint is volume. The tones are not quite loud enough for me. I have no problem hearing them when all is quiet but if theirs sufficient ambient noise, e.g. background traffic, it\'s difficult to hear at address. I don\'t know whether the volume can be adjusted. I found that I can hear the tones better when I rotate the watch face to the inside of my wrist. I can\'t take away any stars because of this as the unit as a whole is wonderful!
  • This is my second Garmin Approach golf watch and I am a pretty happy user. I don\'t think it is worth $399 if you are upgrading from a slightly older model, but if you are in the market for a new one or have money to blow, this is a good watch.Pros:- Color screen. Have had no issues seeing the screen in various lighting conditions. I rarely use the light button. Works really well on a sunny day.- CourseView maps are a nice bonus. I don\'t really use the feature on every hole, but it comes in handy when you want to get an exact layup yardage or distance to the corner of a dogleg or hazard.- Pinpoint. Love using this feature. This is probably the biggest standout between Garmin and some of the other golf watches on the market. You can put the flag wherever you need to on the green. Easy and Simple. And Accurate. Most of my golf buddies have other brands of golf watches/gps and they can\'t do this. I use this feature the most on the watch.- Bluetooth technology. Allows you to sync your scores to your phone, as well as receive text notifications right on the watch. It even gives you the option to only do this when you are actually playing a round of golf. I don\'t really use this feature as I don\'t like to be bothered on the course, but there is some value added if you want to use it.- Super lightweight. Having the Garmin S3, they trying this, it was noticeably lighter.Neutral:- Battery Life. It is pretty standard as far as golf watches go and comparable to the older Garmin models. I can usually get about 27 holes of golf in before having to recharge the watch. If you use the bluetooth feature while golfing, you will get slightly less. If you just use the watch feature, the battery life will last for weeks and weeks. I think mine stayed on 100% for at least a week.- Training Features. I have used them at the driving range a few times, but didn\'t really think they were all that great. If you are trying to learn or really need to improve, I can see some added benefit on the range, but for more advanced golfers (those who are spending the money on this watch) probably won\'t use it very much.Cons:- Lock screen/interface doesn\'t seem to be as good as it was with the Garmin S3. On the old model, you just swiped across the screen to unlock. With this one, you have to hit the button, then hit the lock button on the screen. Sometimes it takes me a few tries to unlock.- Watch display is slightly large. I don\'t have very big hands/wrists, so sometimes it is difficult for me to use with my glove. I usually have to make the watch band a little loose so I can move it up my wrist.- Display is large, but there is a lot of \"wasted space\" around the actual color display. I am sure with newer models, they will find a way to eliminate this black space on the face to make the display even larger.
  • I\'ve played 3 rounds with this watch so far. I love it, though I wish the battery lasted longer. After a round I\'m already at 50% or less. So realistically you can only get 2 rounds out of one charge. I don\'t play with the bluetooth on hoping that it would help me save battery power but it doesn\'t. I wish the display could be put to sleep to save power, i wouldn\'t mind having to press a button to get the yardage if it would allow me to get 3 or 4 rounds out of one charge. Because the battery drains quickly i have to carry my charger everywhere in case i want to play a round after work. I wish I could just charge it once a week and put it in my golf bag.I like the tempo trainer. Other reviewers said the sound wasn\'t loud enough but i had no problem hearing it at a crowded driving range. In retrospect I think i would be fine with the S5 but the features on the S6 are pretty cool. Also I think if you turn off the pinseeker feature the watch is tournament legal, but don\'t quote me on that.
