I had a tough time corralling (locating, holding, finding, etc) my hand held GPS in my new side-by-side ----so I went looking for a holder. My Garmin is an older but totally satisfactory GPS and I had problems keeping it available while traveling in the USFS backroads! This unit is perfect! Not only does it hold, but it clamps, rotates, and is mountable nearly anywhere in the side-by-side. I mounted mine on the window so it is easily accessible and readable while driving!

Overcome your fear of putting screws in your dash and use this mount! Why? Because the sticky pads on the automotive version of this mount don\'t work!The base may be screwed into the dash (yes, you are making a commitment) and then the bracket attaches with a thumb knob. The GPS will not fly off the dash, and operation will be a lot easier because the bracket will hold the unit stationary.If you need a bracket for a marine application, clearly this is the one. I have also found that the base of my GPS12 bracket (also Garmin) is identical and allows me to swap between the GPSMap 76 and GPS12. How\'s that for legacy system support.Before drilling, remove the panel you wish to mount to, or remove something so you can see inside - you don\'t want that drill going into anything critical. Yes, for some modern vehicles this may be a bit intimidating. Get a stereo installer to do it for you. I guarantee you will not regret it!

I bought this from Amazon because the local shops wanted $70 for this here in Australia! Considering it is just a piece of molded plastic really, it is a bit overpriced in my opinion, however, it does the job it is designed to do. I have it mounted on top of my plywood battery box/panel I have fitted to my dinghy and the swivel action allows me to view the GPS from anywhere on the boat, and the tilt action allows yout ot ilt the GPS screen for best viewing/light angle. I use it with my Garmin 76CSx.
Does not come with mounting hardware, what else could you expect from garmin, they suck with terrible customer service. 3 small screws with locking nuts placed it on the kayak easily and it locks in well with s simple screw nob. Loosen the nob and easily remove your gps from its permanent mount with ease. It has multiple tilt positions and with the tilt lock not completely tightened you can move it with a clicking ratcheting and keeps it held tightly but with the ability to change positions easily. The gps slides into the holder easily and with a simple push of a button locks the gps into the holder and keeps it there.
The mount seems to work fine on my off-shore fishing boat to hold my MAP76 that use as backup to the primary GPS. The tilt and swivel were solid enough. The mount needs to be bolted down when using in heavy movement that we encounter on the ocean. Tape pads just won\'t do the job. Tape pads did seen to work fine in the highway car and kept me from putting holes in the dashboard
