Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 93sv, 9 Keyed-Assist Touchscreen Chartplotter with U.S. LakeVü g3 and GT54UHD-TM transducer
- The screen is bright, menus are intuitive and the sonar detail is excellent. The included charts are quite good in most places. For others, like a river with a sand or mud bottom where things shift from year to year, or a less-traveled lake without precise maps, the QuickDraw feature that builds your own precise contour maps as you go. Side imaging is fantastic for locating fish cribs, sub-surface vegetation and large fish or schools of smaller fish. On traditional sonar a log or branch can look like one fish or several fish, but down imaging sonar will show it for what it really is. LiveScope is a pricey add-on you can connect to this unit that gives you an amazing real-time view of your surroundings. My own complaint is a minor one:The unit has a feature to record the sonar data. I\'ve used the same feature on an older Humminbird model, and at times it\'s really useful. If you pass over something interesting and want to view it again later or show it to someone, you can play back the sonar recording. But Garmin\'s ECHOMAP only allows you to record the sonar data, not play it back, which makes the feature almost useless. The manual says to transfer the recordings on a memory card to a computer and use the HomePort software to view them, but HomePort has been discontinued. You can still install it, but it\'s dependent on some outdated Windows components. They\'ve moved away from HomePort and suggest using their ActiveCaptain app, but on an ECHOMAP unit, the \"Helm\" features (which include viewing sonar recordings) aren\'t supported. So this model has a sonar recording feature but no currently supported way to view the recordings.Hopefully Garmin will add recording playback to the unit through a software update, and/or add that ability to their ActiveCaptain app.It\'s still a fantastic chartplotter, and in all ways but that one minor issue, a great upgrade from my earlier side imaging sonar.
- I wanted to replace my Lawrence Hook 7 in, and after lots of investigation decided to go with Garmin. Garmin had less complaints about service than Lawrence and Hummingbird did. It is a beautiful unit and the 9inch screen is about the same physical size as my old 7inch Lawrence was. This has a touch screen or you can use the buttons. It\'s has sonar, navigation, downscan and side scan plus clear view, a new look for accuracy on sonar. The transducer is a little bigger and so is the transducer mount so you may have to change your mount a little higher like I did. There are all kinds of user friendly things you can do with this and it will change the way you fish. The lake maps that are built into this unit are very good so you will not have to upgrade to a new map. With Active Captain the App associated with Garmin you can update the map and software when you need to.You will have to buy a micro SD card for this. It also works if you go to a smaller lake that is not built into the maps on the unit. You can then map it yourself to the SD card for future use. The display on this unit includes the time of day and the voltage of the battery which is nice. Water temp and boat speed and other stuff as well. I like this unit and have had no problems with it. You need to go to UTUBE to learn how to use some of this stuff like side scan but it\'s worth it. This unit was around a $1000 dollars but you get the best transducer and maps for the money. Read carefully whats included before you buy one . There are lots of variations that may not have everything you want.
- Very easy to use! I’m very happy with it!
- Best investment I have yet to add to my boat. Can’t wait to add live scope.
- I bought 2 of these monitors over the last 8 months, one last spring and another this past fall. I used the first one last summer and loved it. I haven\'t even used the second one yet as I had it installed in my boat by the people who winterized it. I paid $1049 for both of these monitors and now Scheels is selling them for $599. As a Humminbird user who recently switched to Garmin and have been advocating for them with other people in the market for a monitor I now have a very bad taste in my mouth! No more Garmin monitors for me.
- Had it installed by the dealer. Really like the ease of use. Maps are so helpful since we are on a new lake we don\'t know well. Still need to learn more about reading side view. Bought another one for the front of the boat. 9 in works well for our needs.
- Easy setup
- I bought two other quick disconnect cradles for it so I could swap it from my fishing boat, pontoon boat and ice fishing setup. I use this head unit year around. Transducers work great on both boats and the panoptix is amazing for ice fishing. Love the lake maps.
