Garmin 12-Volt Adapter Cable
- This is the third adapter cable I have had on the Garmin GPS. The original one failed after about 3 years. We were moving the unit back and forth between my car and my boat. I purchased a new one from Amazon. That one lasted over a year until my son borrowed the hole unit for a trip he needed to use it. It failed when I put it back in my car. I knew I needed the GPS for a business trip and would need it with the rental car, so reluctantly I ordered a third cable from Amazon. I had delayed my decision to buy another one unitl it was almost too late before I was to leave home. The cable arrived more quickly than promised by Amazon and I was happy to have it before I got on the plane. Using it on my business trip, I think I found the weakness in the unit. I noticed that the connection between the GPS itself and the cable is very un-stable. I suspect that wiggeling everything around when you mount and dis mount the GPS, causes the connector to fail at the GPS itself. So I put some electical tape to hold the connector flat against the GPS. So far this has worked. At Christmas my family gave me a new TOM TOM GPS to replace this one not knowing that I believe I have figured out how to make this one work for a long time. Now my plan is to put this one permanently on my boat. Actually it will get less abuse on the boat than it will in the car, so I expect this arrangement to last a while. If something changes, I will update my review.
- I bought the Garmin 765 late last year and until about a month ago only got to use it in my truck and car where the MONSTER traffic cable was not a real issue. However, my main purpose for the 765 was to use it on my motorcycle since it allowed multiple point custom routing letting me tell it where to go on the less traveled roads. Hence, my need for traffic information was little to none as I also live in a rural area. Managing that MONSTROSITY of a power cord was difficult on the two wheeler. I tried using the mini-USB port for power with a genuine Garmin power supply but found that it would cause my 765 to go into \"office mode\' with half brightness and what my mother used to call \"indoor voice\" half volume. Not good in bright sunlight and noisy outdoors. This item fixed that problem entirely giving me full volume and full brightness with a manageable cord on my bike. Happy days for only $16 and it works very well with a thin cord like a normal car power supply. This is not a genuine Garmin product. It says made in China but says Garmin nowhere on it. But, truth be told, the monster traffic cable that came supplied in the box with the brand new 765 says made in Taiwan tho it also says Garmin on it so what\'s the difference? The difference is YOU save by buying this one which is wonderful. I just ordered a second one for my truck. I\'ll keep the monster cable but will probably use it - never? To those folks who complain about the business end coming apart on their power supplies, that is how these car lighter items are built. All of them. The caps require tightening frequently but you can solve that problem by removing the cap and applying a dab of nail polish on the threads then screwing the cap back on to prevent it loosening but allowing you to still change the fuse if needed.
- Not much to say - it works as advertised and appears to be of OEM or better quality.Garmin 660 in-car mount.
- I gave this item stars even though it turned out to not be what I needed. I didn\'t think it was fair to rate it lower just because it was the wrong cable for my particular application. The Garmin Zumo GPS is made for motorcycle use. I also wanted to use my Zumo in my car. I had decided to get an extra motorcycle cradle so that I could leave one permanently on my bike, and just move the GPS itself back and forth from my car. The only problem is that I needed a power cable for the cradle in my car, and I didn\'t realize that there is a different type of cradle for car use. If I\'d used that cradle, the power cord I got from Amazon would have worked. As it is, I got another power cable that\'s meant for the cycle mount (that has a wire wire meant to be hard wired into a power source) and put a Radio Shack cigarette type plug on the end of it so that it plugs into my accessory outlet on my car just like a regular GPS.The only problem with returns to Amazon is that you have to pay return postage which is a bummer.
- These cables get lost so easily in a cluttered garage. Fortunately, this guy did the trick. Works great- haven\'t had any problems with it at all, and appears more durable than the original one that came with the GPS. I\'m not sure what the fuss is with everyone claiming that it breaks easily. I\'ve used mine a lot since I bought it, and have yet to experience any problem with it. I do like that its length is quite long, so I can charge it anywhere I\'d like to in the car. I will also mention that I don\'t subscribe to the traffic service, so it doesn\'t make a difference to me whether the cord notifies me about that stuff or not. Others claim that the cord fails to do this, whereas the original doesn\'t fail to do this, so please take this into account. This cord also works with several other Nuvi models that I own (I usually use the 660).Hope this helps; please let me know if you have any more questions.
