Garmin tactix Delta, Premium GPS Smartwatch with Specialized Tactical Features, Designed to Meet Military Standards
- After using several iterations of the Apple Watch, I decided to make a change. The change was not because I was displeased with the Apple Watch- I do think the Apple Watch, if you have an iPhone, is a great piece of tech. However, superficially, I just love the way the Garmin looks, specifically, the Tactix Delta, as well as I wanted something a bit more durable. As a disclaimer- I make a few comparisons to the Apple Watch- I of course am aware that the Apple Watch will have a huge advantage in terms of integration with an iPhone because Apple makes both, makes the software for both, etc....The Garmin seems to be the \"undisputed\" champ when it comes to distance running, marathons/marathon training, backpacking, etc, with its ability to track splits, and various data on the run. Additionally, the battery life is incredible. I don\'t use many notifications, but i do track fitness data and I easily get several weeks on one charge, if not longer. The GPS tracking has worked very well for runs/walks. I have not had a chance to get it out on any trails yet. It does track some really nice data that you can review in Garmin Connect app on your phone. One downside is that you have to have the Garmin Connect software running on your phone to track data. If it\'s not running, it will sync with the watch the next time you open it. Not a huge deal, but of course not as straightforward and streamlined as Apple. If you do not care about the Tactix looks/don\'t need the few specific features it comes with, the Fenix 6 would likely be a better option (the current model at the time of this review) and potentially save a few dollars. I will say the Tactix Delta only comes in the size of the Fenix 6x (the largest watch face size) which is much larger than even the 44mm Apple Watch. I was concerned it would be too large, but I actually very much like the size. I am not a big person- 5\'10\"... so i don\'t have particularly long arms/big wrists. But after a day or so I got used to it and do not in any way think it looks too big.I just wish Garmin and Apple could connect to create the ultimate watch- the durability and looks of the Garmin (which admittedly is more personal preference than anything) with the software/phone connectedness of the Apple Watch. Perhaps a future iteration! Over all, if you don\'t need all the notifications or the great screen of the Apple Watch, or are looking for something built more for outdoors/activities/adventure (not saying the Apple Watch can\'t do that- it does it well, and is getting better with new WatchOS releases... its just the watch itself in my experience has always been a bit more fragile), then the Garmin would be a great option for you. Or, of course, if you are an Android user, I think the Garmin would really be a great piece of tech to have if you like some notifications on your wrist that syncs well with your phone.Just my two cents for a very \"average\" user... I am not a marathon runner/backpacking through the swiss Alps... just enjoy fitness, being active, and trying new technology.
- Great job, The Watch Company! Received in perfect working order. Fast shipping, arrived on time. Works as advertised and within expectation. Read the manual and it is not that difficult to operate. Offline maps with a ton of other functions is paramount in cell phone tower dead space. Tons of storage for most all maps you might need, unless you need the entire world all of the time with hundreds of hours of music. Battery life is much better then most smart watches to date. Most need to be charged nightly or in a few days, this watch can last between 30 and 120 days depending on settings. Shorter of course if you have it running everything all the time. An on board compass is a great feature mixed with elevation. Great all around expedition watch for outdoor enthusiasts. Price point is a bit high, but worth it if you need a watch that doesn’t need a phone, WiFi, and a cell tower near by to get the job done. Comes with both stealth mode and airplane mode. Very useful for those who know anything about technology and for those who don’t. If you want your watch to be your phone buy one from a phone retailer. If you want your watch to be another tool in the tool box for the outdoor experience in any environment, then do your research on this one.
