- For years, I\'ve wanted two things with regard to Garmin GPS units: a.) the ability to simply power the thing from a computer USB port without having to \"fight off\" data transfer mode and b.) the ability to receive and review traffic data while I\'m not (yet) in the car.Now I have both, courtesy of the USB Garmin traffic antenna and power cable in this cable and charger set .Better yet, it seems connector quality of the cable is a step up. I have a \"broken\" GPS that declares any Garmin TA10 cable (including the one that came with it) as \"incompatible\" with traffic reception. Those same Garmin TA10\'s work fine on a different GPS. The EDO Tech Supply cable provides traffic reception on _both_ GPS units. And yes, in repeated trials, the EDO Tech cable works every time on the \"broken\" GPS while the genuine Garmin TA10\'s fail _every_ _time_. YMMV.HD Traffic reception also works via this cable (despite the disclaimer in the product description), providing more good news. Note of course this is true only for Garmin GPS units using a mini-USB connector and having a built-in HD traffic receiver, not those requiring an in-cord receiver. My unit receives HD or RDS traffic, as available, via this cable. So, with all the operational goodness, why not five stars? Marking. Or near lack thereof. This is a special-purpose USB cable: it does not carry data, and it works as a Garmin traffic antenna. Such an unusual device ought to be obviously and permanently marked. The only nearly-identifying marking on the cable is a small \"tape flag\" bearing the EDO logo on one side and saying \"EDO Tech TA Series\" on the other side. So, plan on arranging your own marking lest someone (maybe even you...) unknowingly toss your cable after mistaking it for \"broken\" by attempting to (mis)use it for some general-purpose USB data-related chore.
- So far so good.
- This cable and 12v to USB adapter allows me to use the Garmin GPS while sharing my 12v power port with other devices. The cable works to receive traffic updates, which common cables will not do. The cable length is just about perfect to reach from the socket to GPS on dash or windshield, but probably long enough to hide under the dash and run towards the doors for a permanent installation, but that\'s not how I use this one. It\'s worked beautifully in rentals and my vehicles, survived some rough travelling, packed tightly, and even a few pinches without a failure. I liked it good enough that I purchased a second one for my other car. I would recommend it to others.
- I wanted this cable so I could use it with a multi-USB port, instead of using the Garmin cable that takes up the cigarette lighter port. At first, this cable seemed to do the trick with my Garmin 2592 LMT. The traffic feature even worked without any issues. However, after a short time of use, the cable started to cut off periodically, causing the Garmin to switch to battery mode (and begin the shutdown sequence, unless I hit a button to cancel the shutdown). Usually, after 5-30 seconds, the connection would come back. Sometimes it would do this once an hour. Sometimes it would happen repeatedly in a span of just a few minutes. Either way, it got tiresome very quickly. The best that I can tell is that the connector end that plugged into the Garmin was a looser-fitting connection than the factory cable from Garmin (which has a snug fit). Wiggling the connector seemed to restore the connection faster, but obviously this is not something one wants to live with. I also tried multiple USB adaptors, just to verify it wasn\'t the adaptor causing the issue. It was definitely an issue with the cable itself. If the cable had been able to maintain the connection, I would have been very happy with it. As it was, the constant broken connections became too much to tolerate, so I returned this and went back to the original cable until a better solution could be found.
- Does exactly as stated in description which I have found to not be true with other companies. Are use this cable for a Garman Zummo 396 LMT. I mean we purchased it so I could plug it in and charge it in the Home and update it wirelessly which it does. I have tried other cords and messages come up on the navigation screen trying to upload or download things not exactly certain way but I have transfer data using this cable as well and it works great but it will just simply charge it as well using a wall outlet
- It\'s small, and it works. I might have could used another 1/2 to 1 foot of cable, but that\'s my problem. :) The indicator light is nice, and the charging cable has the trick wiring for the Nuvi 550, so it works as a charger and not as a computer hook up, as indicated by the other review what assured me I\'d be getting the correct product for my needs.I use the nuvi 550 as my motorcycle GPS, and it works great on it. Just these cables aren\'t exactly made for outdoors, so I\'ll have to do something about that (they oxidize on the connectors, so maybe some dielectric grease to fix that is in order.)Anyway, if you have a Garmin with this connector, this is the cable (and charger!) you need!
- Using this with a Garmin 2757. First I simply plugged it in and confirmed it indeed charged and not put gps in data transfer mode. After confirming that functioned properly, I then checked it worked with an AmazonBasics 6ft usb extension cable, which it did. I then installed the gps mount in the top of the windshield beside the visor and I ran the cord down the window pillar. I secured the cord with some clear command strip cord clamps along the window pillar and then ran the cord down to under the dash in the steering wheel area. From there it was plugged into the usb extension which was routed down along the underside of my center console to my factory cig adapter inside the center console. All works perfect and is pretty inconspicuous.
