Garmin fēnix 5s, Premium and Rugged Smaller-Sized Multisport GPS Smartwatch, Silver/Turquoise
- You have all read the many reviews. Here is a couple pieces of perspective from a general technology user. Before complaining, and hoping Garmin maybe is listening. I use the watch and its very effective at doing what its made for. But.1. Compared to even a crappy smartphone, the display contrast is horrible both in bright light and with backlight indoor. the many pictures you see online with amazing black background is photoshop. in the office the black background is grey and the white is lighter grey.2. The watch band for the 5s is incredible short. I\'m a guy with fairly thin arms and the watchband close in the third hole on the stock band I ordered the leather band, maybe because its a little thicker, it was impossible to close the 5s leather band around my wrist.2b. GARMIN. great watch (with sucky screen but still great) PLEASE make a longer 20mm \"mens\" watch band. ;-) **** EDIT, garmin replied and mentioned that there is a longer watch band under product nr 010-12491-02So having said that. watch works well once you get used to it. got a lot of idiosyncratic concepts like how you must twist the arm to turn the backlight on :-) try not spilling your beer.No doubt this is state of the art in GPS-HR-smart-watches, but in terms of display tech, Garmin should take a brief moment to google things like OLED / CONTRAST OLED use less power, so that may be something for you right there. In the meantime I will be hanging onto my FENIX 5s until they come out with a 6s with OLED screenEDIT - Aug31 2017Sooo got this in May end of August now. have been using it everyday since May, no GPS but always HR monitoring turned on, after all, thats what I bought it for. In May it would last as much as 4+ days with about 25% power-drain per day. now after about 90 days, no changes to setup. I\'m getting about 2 days, but actually less as its now draining my battery about 50%+ per day, more like 55-60% so practically speaking the watch is now charging about 90-120 minutes each night while watching some TV. suspect by the 1 year mark this may not make it a full day and probably have to turn off the HR sensor.EDIT - Sep 17 2017My watch is no longer charging past 35% I need to fiddle with the cable to get it to start charging, and it will frequently just get extremely hot while the charge cable is connected and actually loose charge, like going from 33 to 28% in maybe 15 minutes. To use the watch I plug it in multiple times a day.Frankly. I do NOT believe the watch generally is a bad product and I love using it, but from day one the battery have been a problem and its time to see if a new unit works better, my watch was one of the first shipping, its very likely production have been refined and probably the battery problem resolved. one way or another, a product should have a longer lifetime than 6 months. Time to call Garmin Support.
- Amazing watch with tons of features. This watch has so many features and customization options that it is a blast to own. I bought this for my wife having myself owned the garmin fenix3 for 2 years. The fenix 3 is a great watch and this thing only improves on it. The user interface is better on this new watch and the HR monitor seems to be more accurate under a wide variety of conditions. The battery life is a bit shorter than on my Garmin fenix3 where I can go 1.5 to 2 weeks int between charges this watch only can seem to go about 1 week. This watch is very nice looking and has the coolest band design that allows you to switch out bands in seconds without any tools!! My wife loves the size now after taking about 2 days to get used to the fact that it is significantly thicker than her previous fitbit. The durability of this watch is second to none. Like my fenix 3 is it pretty much indestructible.
- I have been a Polar user for years and years but having upgraded myself to this has been incredible!! I quit smoking and finally got myself on my feet after a rough year (surgeries) and felt this would help motivate me. It certainly does. Not very complicated to use once you figure it out. I use it for bike riding, walking, stacking wood, swimming and that is only some of what it is capable of. You can decline phone calls, get text messages, phone alerts, etc. The life of the battery depends of what you have set it up for. Obviously the more stuff you do with it , the quicker the battery life wears down--mine lasts anywhere between 5 to 7 days.I absolutely love this Garmin! Oh and a word to the wise-- make sure that you take it off after swimming, showering or sweating really bad because the band can cause issues with your skin.
- I bought this as a gift for my AT hiking wife. She has used it throughout VIRGINIA, New Hampshire and Maine. She digs it the most.Better than buying your girl a diamond... Every time she excitedly shows it off and demonstrates it to someone new, I get laid!
- Brilliant watch. Does all the things I expected after reading the detailed reviews online. Battery life 7 days+. Great size for my wrist (plenty of other blokes I know have got this version rather than the huge 5 or 5X). Tracks everything - its pretty intuitive - I use for running, hiking and Mountainbiking. Heart rate, sleep and stress tracking also very insightful and seems pretty accurate. I\'m converted to Garmin from my experience with this watch.
- Great watch for those who do multi sport trainings. The GPS is great, and the user interface is very simple.I appreciate you can control everything with physical buttons instead of touchscreen.I wear it every day and do an hour and a half trainings 6 days a week and only have to charge it once a week.
- This watch is fake! I owned this exact same watch but lost it in a lake, so I ordered a new one, thinking I was safe since reviews were good. Got it, opened the box and immediately noticed small scratches on the buckle. Thought it probably wasn\'t a big deal, but felt a little suspicious since my last Fenix 5S (pre-ordered from REI) was pristine. Started trying to connect to phone and macbook, it won\'t connect to either. Knowing that\'s a Garmin issue, I start playing with the watch; noticed the buttons barely work. Flipped it over to the optical HR and noticed scratches in the back casing. The set activities weren\'t the same, the quick push button on the upper left had half the capabilities. I don\'t remember where my old watch was made, but this one is from Taiwan. The watch is NOT the same. It\'s most likely an Asian model refurb. Returned immediately and placed an order with REI. I recommend: DO NOT BUY!!!! Update: Just spoke to Garmin and it\'s not a US model, would not have been sold through Garmin, these people are not Garmin dealers and the rep said it sounded like someone had gone through the watch.
