Garmin Fenix 2 GPS Watch (Renewed)

  • So far this has been a good watch. My biggest worry from the reviews was probably the battery life. In my case i was able to track gps on a hike for about 3 hours and it drained about 20% of the battery. I will say however that the bluetooth was difficult to make work on my galaxy s6 but I was eventually able to make it work, And when it was on it worked very well. Also the bluetooth drained the battery in less than a day. However, I have been running it as a watch only with the bluetooth off for three days and it currently has 92% battery. On the hike the GPS tracked well but I should have taken some more time to study the features because they were not super intuitive. I actually ended up doing some hiking off trail with the expectation of being able to use the tracback feature but could not find it when it came time to turn back and head home. Could have been bad if i was in a more remote area.Overall I have been pretty happy with it as a hiking and everyday watch. I really like being able to upload and review all the data it captures and share routes with friends. I think overall its worth the discounted price.
  • The price is okay at $125 including shipping. The Fenix 2 has great features and allows you to add many data screens that you can scroll through. It has WAAS that you can turn on. It does not have GLONASS. It has an altimeter that you can calibrate and an electronic compass. It is bulky and heavy to wear on the wrist. The display is hard to read with the font and typeface used since numbers aren\'t clear. A 1 looks like a 7, a 6 looks like an 8 or 0, etc. It is easy to get the data directly from the watch by USB. No internet or smartphone app is required. The BAD: it gives wrong distance measurements which means wrong pace/speed data too. It connects flawlessly to Garmin HR straps. It shows cadence from the arm swing with built in accelerometer. On out and back trail runs the distance does not match. And is also wrong each way. By as much as 15%. Garmin really messed up. They probably estimate distance using the accelerometer. Which is very inaccurate. According to other reviews, the Suunto gives much more accurate distances. But may not allow you to see elevation gain mid-run. This watch does. And the Suunto may not allow you to get the data file without uploading to their app. Sadly, according to reviews the Fenix 3 or even the latest Fenix 5 is not really any more accurate for distances.
  • The Garmin Fenix 2 GPS watch does all the technical stuff that I wanted in a hiking watch. It keeps track of where I\'ve been and how to get back to where I\'ve started if I lose the trail. I got this watch at a great discount from the current version (fenix 5 at around $800), and I get 100% of what I wanted. I don\'t hike more than 5-6 hours at a clip, so the battery life is perfectly acceptable. The only criticism that I have of the watch is that the resolution on the screen is low and sometimes I have a hard time making out what is on the screen when it is written in the small text. This is because I need reading glasses for small text in low light. This has only been alerts (e.g. I have one set to alert me every hour of time and kilometer of distance, when it is 1:30 before sundown, and when I pass a heart rate zone). Sometimes under active stress, I can\'t tell which of the alerts is displayed exactly when the watch vibrates.
  • I thought I was going to finally find a watch that would serve all my purposes...I was wrong. Upon, receiving my fenix 2 the watch felt great around my wrist and looked good! The watch face wasn’t too big or too small. I immediately plug it up to the charger and began to read the manual which, is fairly easy to read and short. After I set up my fenix 2 I noticed the time was reading 7 minutes faster than the current time. I tried changing the settings to manual but, that just allows you to pick which time zone your in. It doesn’t allow you to physically enter a time of your choosing. I couldn’t effort paying so much money for this watch and having to minus 7 minutes every time I look at the time. Therefore, I returned the watch and still waiting for my refund. I tracked my returned item and it reached it’s finally destination however, I still haven’t received my refund...going on 2 days now! Amazon is quick to take your money but, takes forever to refund your credit!! I can’t even reach a customer representative on the phone...smh. I may have to take my business elsewhere from now on.
  • I bought this knowing it was a bit older meaning not the latest tech but what lead to me returning is the display. I was coming from a Vivoactive which has multi color and multiple faces to add from the app store. The problem I found was the illumination on the watch just was not bright enough in normal settings for me to clearly read. So I normally use reading glasses on the computer but on my VA I can make things out based on the ability to use larger or different colored schemes. This watch does not offer that customization so it just would not work even though I was looking forward to it.As long as your vision is good or you wear glasses all the time, I don\'t then I am sure this is an excellent Tough GPS watch.I returned and ordered the VA3. This is perfect and has the same customization I was used to.
